Safety Matters

At a recent County Executive meeting concern was expressed about Groups who own their headquarters and have equipment, needing to check their insurance. Please ensure that you have sufficient cover for the premises you own and also the equipment stored in it. For example if your premises is insured for £10,000 when the real value is £20,000 any claim for damage, fire etc. will halved.

If you have a policy with Unity Scout Insurance Services, the Association’s company, they recommend a valuation every three years. Unity provide this service free of charge. Contact for Unity is:- 0345 040 7703. Look on the Scout Association’s website and click “insurance”.

  1. What is the cost of rebuilding your Scout HQ?
  2. When did you last get your Scout HQ valued?
  3. Do you hire out your Scout HQ to others?
  4. If your building was damaged, would you be able to pay for the use of alternative premises for your weekly meetings?
  5. What are the excesses and restrictions on the policy?

NB. NON-MEMBER CHILDREN PUBLIC LIABILITY AND PERSONAL ACCIDENT COVER.
If you have helpers who are not members and have to bring their children to meetings or events, Norfolk Scouts have a policy that covers all of the County for this category.
