Volunteer Vacancy – County Search Group Chair

You will be a key member of the County Appointments Advisory Team who are responsible for advising the County Commissioner on the suitability of candidates for the appointment to the County Team; namely the following roles:- DCCs, ACCs, DCs, DDCs, LTMs, County Scouters and County Advisers.

Irrespective of your background or Scouting experience, if you believe you have what it takes to inspire and motivate a small team of dedicated individuals this could be the role for you.

Key responsibilities

To appoint and chair a small group to search for suitable candidates for County roles within a designated period of time.

Advise the County Commissioner, County Appointments Chairman and Secretary of suitable candidate(s) for interview by the County Appointments Advisory Committee.

The County Search Group do not interview candidates and the group(s) will be appointed on each occasion (it will not be a permanent panel)

Responsible to: County Appointments Advisory Committee Chairman

Line Management of: Group(s) appointed on each occasion.

Appointment and Training Requirements

  • Understand and accept the key policies and processes of The Scout Association.
  • Successful completion of our appointment and induction process, including a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
  • Attend Module 37 “Advising on Adult Appointments”.

Main Tasks

  • Maintain working relationships with all members of the County Appointments Team.
  • Appoint members of Search Group(s) and chair meetings.
  • To provide advice on candidate(s) to interview to the County Commissioner Chairman and Secretary of the County Appointments Advisory Committee.
  • To attend meetings and conferences at County level.

Person Specification

  • Skills Required:-
  • Ability to lead teams
  • Written and communication skills.
  • Be self-motivated and able to motivate others.
  • IT literate have access to a PC, and internet and email at least once a day.
  • Ability to work and engage with people of all ages.
  • Ability to work within predefined limits (for example timescales)
  • Ability to accept and positively respond to responsibility.

Qualities Required

  • Accept the rules and policies of The Scout Association.
  • Accept The Scout Association’s purpose, method and values.
  • Able to commit to the workload of the County Appointments Advisory Committee.
  • Be in a position to travel to meetings across the County and further afield.
  • A bright outlook and a can do approach to the role.
