Paul Williams has been appointed as Assistant County Commissioner for Scouts and Explorer Scouts

I am delighted to welcome Paul to the County Team, his role will start on 1 August 2018 and the main tasks will be:

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with DCs, ADCs (Scouts) DESCs and other Commissioners in the County to provide support in matters relating to the Scout and Explorer sections and their Leaders
  • Assist the ADCs (Scouts) and DESCs in promoting a balanced programme to all Section Leaders and Young Leaders (in the Scout Section)
  • Provide practical help either directly or indirectly that leads to the growth of the Scout and Explorer sections.
  • Help develop youth led Scouting in Norfolk.
  • To identify, create and distribute guidance and resources for all aspects of the Scout and Explorer programmes.

Paul’s email address is p.williams@norfolkscouts.org.uk. I know Paul is planning to try and meet many of you at NORJAM.

I am sure you will join me in wishing him every success as we focus on the continuing growth of the Scout Section and looking at new ways to promote Explorer Scouting.

Paul has provided a brief introduction, which is below.

Matthew Burrell, County Commissioner

A bit about Paul….

I first took up a leadership role a quarter of a century ago and I hope to keep going at least that long again! Over the years I’ve worked across Cornwall, Nottingham and Norfolk with Beavers, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Venture Scouts and the Student Scout and Guide Organisation.

My Scouting in Norfolk started with Sheringham and Beeston Regis Scout Group in the late 1990’s where I helped re-establish their Venture Scout Unit and was involved in the transition into Explorer Scouts. I’ve been with 1st Tasburgh Scout Group for the last 15 years or so, first as Scout Leader, then as Explorer Scout Leader.

I’m looking forward to hearing how groups encourage their Scouts to move into Explorers and hope to spread some of the best ideas to ensure we retain more young people. I’d also love to find out how you promote youth involvement in your programme planning.
