Welcome to Liam Segust – Assistant County Commissioner – Young Leader
Brief history of my scouting career:
Having joined Cub Scouts through a friend over 15 years ago, I progressed through the youth sections and have been an ACSL for seven years. I am currently supporting YLs in East Norfolk, helping them to develop themselves, build up their skills and knowledge to become capable young adults and hopefully, continue to volunteer in Scouting.
Who inspires you and why?
Young people inspire and surprise me. I take enormous pride in teaching and mentoring the future stars of Scouting, facilitating current Scouts to achieve great ambitions. I embody the values of Scouting, and encourage others to realise how fortunate they are to be exposed to such amazing opportunities everyday.
If you were stuck on a desert island – which of each of these would you take and why?
Book: I love a good campfire, so anything to help start that would be awesome!
CD: Are these still around? To be honest, anything I can rock out and sing along loudly to would keep me entertained.
Camp Gadget: I guess a razor sharp knife would offer multiple uses, including aiding the creation of other gadgets I would need to survive!
Sweet: COOKIES!! Oh my goodness I’m like the cookie monster!!!
What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I’m excited to get stuck in straight away. I cannot wait to begin collaborating with familiar and new faces across the County, to develop and deliver an awesome training programme for YLs. I hope to empower adults to have a direct effect on shaping young people for the future. It’s imperative we tackle challenges head on and celebrate achievements on this new Scouting journey. Let’s start our new adventure together!
