Back in the Swing Again

Written by gary on 20 January, 2012

2012 sees us move forward with a number of major events in the county.

County Cub Camp takes place in May and I understand from rumours that the numbers are well over 1000 young people booked in but not sure as I have not had this confirmed. In June all the districts are involved with the Queens Jubilee celebrations with either a District Beacon or a number of group ones and possible events. On this note has everbody got their Jubilee Badge? Orders for these can be placed with the Trading post, on request from now on, so make sure all our young people have the oppurtunity to wear this national badge for the Jubilee Year.

CRB's / Training / Nights Away Authorisations / Activity Authorisations
Recently District Commissioners have recieved a list of members whose CRB may have expired along with some members who appear to have never had a CRB! This list was duplicated to me with the very clear instruction from Headquarters endorsed by the Regional Commissioner that any member who has not got a current CRB or whose application is not in the pipeline by 31st January 2012 will be suspended.

The issuing of a CRB is a personel document to each individual and although the expiry date is recorded on the membership database it is very clearly the responsibility of the individual to ensure that it is current and whilst many Appointment Secretary's remind members it still remains the individual's responsibility to ensure they hold a current CRB.

Along with CRB's there remains an obligation by leaders to complete their Wood Badge Training, failure to do this can lead to a meeting with the District Appoinments Advisory Committee. The new County Training Manager Nicola Cubitt and DCC Adult Support Neville Jarvis are putting together a couple of weekends to enable members to pick-up modules along with sifting through County and District teams to ensure that we provide the facility for members to complete this.
Following on from this is the need to ensure that leaders providing activities and taking young people to camp hold the necessary Nights Away Permit and Activity Authorisation. Please check your authorisations and renew them before the Camping season is well under way, trying to do this a week before the event puts pressure on the issuers of these authorisations and can lead to young people missing out.
EVAC has a number of offers available to Scouts and Guides so please look at their website to take advantage of these and other offers during the forthcoming year.

DISTRICT CONFERENCES
East Norfolk , Southern Norfolk and Northern Norwich will over next weekend be spending time with the newly appointed DC's looking at their plans for the future and dealing with a number of issues that concern the individual districts ----more reports after the event.
