From Presentations to Games & Hoards of Young Leaders

Written by gary on 02 December, 2011

I was invited on Friday to attend a parents evening and to present a number of awards at 1st Dereham Scout Troop, little did I expect what awaited me! Before the presentation I was selected along with a number of parents to join in the fun of a few simple games, one of which involved using ones powers of obsevation and communication. There I sat in a row with approx four parents and five scouts and each of us was handed a page from the Eastern Daily Press which we had to re-place with each page being in order, sadly somewhere along the line our teams communication let us down and with the other Team forging ahead we had some problems when from the front of our team the people at back had been asked for page 33 when some of us still had pages 7 and 13 needless to say we lost. It was good to see the support from parents on the evening and we also where treated to a DVD of the Troops activities over the year. Well done to all.

Saturday and Sunday saw 50 or so young leaders (difficult to count as they all kept moving) decend on Eaton Vale Activity Centre for a YL Training weekend, they had come from all over the County and when I visited them on Saturday they appeared to be working hard and being fed very well by the catering Team. It was good to meet up with some of them that I had last seen at the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden during my visit in August and not surprising to see Steven Croxall still putting his hand up volunteer to do something!! My thanks go to Gill Hales County Young Leader Manager and her team for providing the weekend for the Young Leaders.

Please look out for details of the Trading Post Christmas closure and if you are looking for extra bits get in early.
