IDEAS, Olympics and CUBS

FULL OF IDEAS

Following the 3 District Conferences at the end of January, the district teams came away with ideas and plans to lead the districts into 2018 (The National Plan). With DC's , District chairs, GSL's and DEXC's there was a good spread of members from the districts. Sessions covered during the weekend included District Explorer Scout provision, In Touch - how to use the system, Health and Safety, Grants and Trusts; along with the ability to network with members from other districts.

The feedback from all who took part was very positive and encouraging to members of the County Team who attended on Sunday to offer advice and support.

On Saturday we had the pleasure of Brandon Lewis MP for Great Yarmouth pop in to face an off the cuff question time from the assembled members including questions on financial support for groups meeting in village halls, church halls and schools. Brandon will hopefully be joining the small group of MP's at Westminster who will ask questions on our behalf.

The closing session on Sunday was "What Have the Romans done for us " or more to the point "What has or can the County do for us". This was an oppurtunity for questions to be put to the Deputy County Commissioner's with myself standing in the sidelines to answer points involving finance etc.. A considerable number of questions concerned the question of Young Leader training cost in relation to the new system of Adult courses be "Free" following the £0.75p training levy which comes into effect 1st April this year. I have promised to sit down with the DCC Adult Support and County Training Manager later on this year and look at the implications to include YL Training in the scheme.

OUR OLYMPIC REPS

I have recently heard that Simon Mobbs who many will know from his time in Northern Norwich has been successful in his apllication to work at the Olympics, at present he is not sure what his role will be other than it will be in IT Support, congratulations to Simon on this achievement, I am sure he will use the oppurtunity to spread the good word for Scouting. If anyone else out there has been accepted for any role at the Olympics please let us know!

COUNTY CUB CAMP

Latest registration numbers are fast approaching the 1500 mark, this is a fantastic chance for us to offer to the members of the Cub Section a weekend full of excitment and activities which will lead them forward to continuing their scout experience into the Scout section.
