Skills & Expeditions

Written by gary on 27 October, 2011

Just this week I have learnt of two proposed Explorer Belt Expeditions in the planning stage, the first is being planned by a group of Explorer Scouts based at 1st Fressingfield in Southern
Norfolk. I was invited along with the ACC International and DC to listen to their first of many I am sure presentations in preparation for the planned expedition to Kenya in 2013, along with parents.

I listened with great interest to their research on the country covering such items as, health, travel, crime, food weather etc.; and whilst still in the early stages of planning the aim is to work alongside volunteers at the Sisters of Mercy Mission which cares for a number of orphans, many of you will have seen the article on the website recently announcing that they had a scout member over there who was a member of the 1st Fressingfield Troop so the involvement with the mission is already established. My thanks to the Group Scout Leader Andrew for the invitation to attend this presentation and I look forward with interest to their progress especially with the fundraising some £2000 per person to include a return visit of members from Kenya 2014.

The second expedition will take place in June of next year and will involve 9 members of the County Network, the plans for this are well ahead for their expedition to Spain with flights booked
and the preliminary expedition plans awaiting final approval.

South West Norfolk once again held their annual Skills Weekend which saw a variety of activities laid on for leaders from the District, the sun shone on the weekend so the outside activities
proved popular along with a number of members of the County Team turning up toply their skills - Development, International, Water Activity authorisations and land activities. These events
both locally and County wise bring together leaders of all levels of experience and give a chance for all to share their skills.
