Norfolk Hill and Rock Fellowship
NSHRF is a county Fellowship established in July 2004. It was set up to increase the amount of climbing, scrambling, hillwalking and expeditions being undertaken by Norfolk Scouts. The initial members were leaders keen to share their expertise and enthusiasm with sections and leaders. The hope is that more members interested in these pursuits will join to help make a difference in Norfolk Scouting.

Membership is open to anyone over 18.

The Aims of the NSHRF

To co-ordinate and offer opportunities and support to Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Members of the Scout Network, Members of The Scout Fellowship, and Leaders to experience and develop skills for Walking and climbing.

To provide expedition training for Explorer Scouts, Members of the Scout Network, Members of The Scout Fellowship, and Leaders to Scout Award and Duke of Edinburgh Award standards.

To increase the number of trained, qualified and authorised leaders.

What Does the NSHRF Actually Do?

  • Monthly skills based but social meetings for members.
  • Trips for members to the hills and rock.
  • Provides leaders with the opportunity to gain experience before attending national authority training courses.
  • Organises trips for sections at a county level.
  • Supports expeditions in Explorer and Network scouts.
  • Provides a pool of qualified leaders to help individual sections where possible.

What commitment do we look for?

To meet our aims of getting Norfolk Scouts more active in the hills and on the rock we expect every member to take an active role in at least one major event every year. This could be delivering the training material to a section, supervising an expedition or helping in a significant way on one of our trips. You do not need to be qualified to help us achieve our aims.

Reasons to join NSHRF
  • You enjoy the social side of being part of a like minded group
  • You want to help all Norfolk Scout Groups
  • You are a team player
  • You are prepared to take an active organising role
  • You want to improve your hill & rock skills
  • You need experience in hill & rock activities

What does it cost?

There A £15 one off membership fee, which includes a logo fleece. If you are not paying your Scout Association annual membership fee (Capitation) elsewhere in scouting you will need to pay this through the Fellowship. The monthly members meetings will involve a fee to cover the cost of that evening only. When you are “working” for NSHRF on one of our events we will normally look to pay your costs of travel.
