Adventure Afloat in 2018 from 10 years old upwards.

Looking for a different kind of residential experience in 2018? Our friends at Essex Scouts might be able to help.

Did you know that Adventures Offshore could take your Scouts or Explorers on a weekend voyage?

Did you know that our sea staff hold Nights Away permits?

We can take up to 16 Scouts with four leaders/parents for a weekend away on our two boats from our base in Ipswich on the River Orwell. Groups of Explorers can come unaccompanied! Up to 11 Explorer Scouts per boat.

Start Friday evening and after a short briefing, you would head out through the lock and down river to anchor somewhere quiet for the night.  After a night in a bunk and a hearty breakfast you would  see some of the biggest container ships in the word at Felixstowe, and then have a full day sailing off the Suffolk/Essex coast before coming in to a marina on Saturday evening to cook and eat a meal on board, and then enjoy some cabin games, or maybe a run ashore for a game of rounders on a beach. On Sunday there is time for another sail before heading up the River Orwell to be back in Ipswich for around 4.30pm departure for home.

We can also offer bigger groups a split weekend so up to 16 youngsters each get one night onboard and a day sail,  with a crew-change downriver on a Saturday evening, and the second group of up to 16, joining for  Saturday night and Sunday sailing.

We have longer summer holiday adventures tailor-made for the Explorer age group. They can work towards RYA yachting qualifications whilst on board, and our longer voyages count for DofE Gold Residential. For the adventure of a lifetime, we are entering The Tall Ships Races again in 2018 and have places available for those aged 15 years and upwards to join our crew racing and having fun ashore with young crews from Tall Ships of many different nationalities.

Any young person of 14-25 years can sail as an individual on our summer adventures! We do not just sail with members of The Scout Association. We do have a bursary fund to help individuals who cannot afford the full voyage fees.

Our voyages are not just about sailing. Through teamwork and adventure in an unfamiliar environment, we help to build communication skills, independence and resilience.
