Thank You!

A message from our County Commissioner to our Volunteers.

As Volunteer’s Week draws to a close it is the ideal opportunity to say ‘cheers!’ for the countless hours our 2,500 Volunteers here in Norfolk give week-in-week-out.

Scouting could not operate without the knowledge, time and commitment from our Adults who make it possible to providing more and more young people with skills for life.

As County Commissioner, I aim to champion that everything my team does, or changes, has the output of making things better for our people. That’s why it was important for me, that as we set our ambitions for Norfolk Scouts, we focus not only on welcoming more Young People, but also valuing and recruiting more Adult Volunteers too.

Our strategy and plan will be shared soon but I am happy to share the following key points:

We want to recruit an additional 250 Section Leaders in Norfolk Scouting over five years

We will do this by:

  • Transforming Adult Recruitment
  • Making sure new Adults have a fabulous welcome to Scouting

We also want to invest in developing our existing Volunteers

We will do this by:

  • Ensuring we deliver high quality training
  • Increase our focus on providing practical skills learning to adults

All these activities will support our national mission to have an additional 10,000 frontline Volunteers in Scouting by 2023.

We’re a great organisation to volunteer with, and our Volunteers generally find that they also make some great friends. Remember that recruitment is everyone’s responsibility, why not have a go and see if you can bring a new friend to Scouts this month?

Good luck and thanks!

Matthew Burrell | County Commissioner (Norfolk)
