Last weekend, North West Norfolk District Scouts held their annual Survival Camp at Wolferton Scout & Guide camp site.
Scouts arrived on Friday night and were handed their food parcels for the weekend. They were given fresh vegetables, some chicken, sausage meat, bread, jam, ham and cheese.
There was no set menu, so it was down to them to plan and cook their meals independently from Saturday morning.
John Rospopa, ADC Scouts said he was pleased that there was 56 Scouts that attended the weekend from the ages of 10yrs to 14yrs. “Scouts will be learning self reliance, teamwork, how to light and maintain fires safely. They will also be learning to build a shelter”
Planning began in July with Tom and Merve, District Scout Leaders, helping John pull the weekend together. John and his team have been running this weekend for the past five years, and this year has been the best turn out yet. John had 25 leaders volunteering their time as well as 15 Young Leaders who will be working to complete their module C, which included another Young Leader from a neighbouring district.
Some of the time was dedicated to camp maintenance. The Scouts working to maintain the toilet blocks, restocking the woodpile and litter picking across the site.
The weather didn’t dampen any one’s spirits and a fun weekend was had by all.
If you would like to become involved in next years weekend, please get in touch with John through the County Office.
