Meet Alex…

Alex Hook is the newly appointed Assistant County Commissioner (External Opportunities) . We caught up with Alex to find out a little more…

Brief history into your scouting career

I am a fourth generation scouter in my family and it all started for me with beavers aged 6 at 2nd Diss SA Scout Group where I stayed throughout Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. After I Turned 18 I then joined the leadership team at 2nd Diss where I was a cub leader. I am currently an assistant explorer leader for the Diss ESU.

Who inspires you and why?

I feel that my biggest inspiration when I was growing up was my Grandpops. I can honestly say that if it was not for him, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today.

If you were stuck on a desert island – what one of each of these would you take and why?

  • Book: How to Stay Alive: The Ultimate Survival Guide for Any Situation – Bear Grylls because I think that’s the most sensible choice really…
  • CD : Any meatloaf Album really, however I’m not sure what I would play it on whilst stranded on a desert island?
  • Camp Gadget : This would defiantly be a pocket knife, it is the most versatile tool I could use, I would help with collecting wood and starting a fire, building a shelter and opening coconuts!
  • Sweet : Milk bottles as they are my favourite

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I am really looking forward to being a part of the team that is able to present new opportunities to try new things or go to places that young people may not have been able to get the chance to do.
