Saturday 29 June was the hottest day of the year so far! 1st Smiles met at the headquarters of Nelson’s Journey in Little Plumstead for a special Scout meeting.
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts met to enjoy an afternoon of activities and scout craft, followed by a short hike to enjoy some of the Norfolk countryside.
All of the young people were joined by their parents and supporting adults to take part in a whole group investiture. There were also guests from Norfolk Scouts and Nelson’s Journey. Lorna, who works as a Bereavement Support Officer, took part in the afternoon, along with Simon Wright, CEO of Nelson’s Journey.
Simon commented that he “had a wonderful afternoon and was overwhelmed with the dedication of the Scouting volunteers for 1st Smiles“. He went on to say that he “was impressed at how quickly the idea of 1st Smiles was turned into a reality with support from Norfolk Scouts”
The Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and adult helpers were all invested into the 1st Smiles Scout Group. Peter (GSL) was invested first by Jane from Norfolk Scouts. From then on, Peter was able to invest all of the young people into the group.
“I am really pleased that 1st Smiles is a success, and look forward to watching the group grow”
Peter – 1st Smiles GSL
1st Smiles is a pilot Scout Group between Norfolk Scouts and Nelson’s Journey.
Norfolk Scouts and Nelson’s Journey have joined together because a young person who was a Scout, and also supported by Nelson’s Journey, suggested that Scouting may help young people who are coming to terms with a bereavement start to build a friendship network and develop resilience.
