World Scout Jamboree Update

The 21st to 23rd June saw us meet up in Sudbury for our last training camp before heading off to the Jamboree.

As I look back over the last 18 months since we selected the young people it is incredible how far we have come.  The first meeting in Thetford they all sat around not talking to each other and looking rather nervous, now they have all made firm friendships, work together as a team supporting each other.

At the last training camp, we ran through the procedure at the airport, which even included us all watching the safety briefing, discussed what kit to pack and did some essential healthy relationships training. We still managed to fit in some time for fun with a wide game against Sudbury Explorers and watching a couple of movies.

On the Sunday we were joined by parents, Matthew Burrell (CC), Beka Millard (ACCI) and Rick Cooper (IST) for a short presentation and fun awards. We rounded off the weekend with a barbecue which was successfully organised and run by the young people.

Our journey to the Jamboree starts on Saturday 20 July when we are being collected from EVAC at 8.45am to travel to Heathrow where we will be boarding a Virgin Atlantic flight to New York. After a night at a local university we get to spend the day exploring this amazing city, starting with a visit to the Empire State Building. Later in the afternoon we will travel by coach to the University of West Virgina where will stay the night before making our final leg of the journey to the Summit Bachtel Reserve, home of the 24th World Scout Jamboree. The activities and adventures waiting for us are endless and just seeing 40,000 scouts all coming together will be incredible.

We leave the Jamboree on 2 August to travel to Washington DC where we get to spend a couple of days exploring as well as attending a baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays. We leave Washington to go to our Hosted Hospitality in Sherbrook, Quebec, Canada where we will visit Montreal, taste some local food and enjoy scouting with a local group before returning back to Heathrow on 9th August.
