I wanted to introduce myself as the Education Manager for the South East and East from the Young Gamers and Gambling Education Trust (YGAM). I am contacting Scouters in the Norfolk area to let them know about a fully-funded workshop that we are running for Norfolk Scouts on Saturday 29th January 2022. Currently this is organised to be Face to Face however there is capacity to move it online should we need to.
As a Scouter myself (East Sussex), I know how important these topics are to our young people, particularly in light of lockdown and young people spending more time online. I also know how difficult it can be for volunteers, and how time consuming it can be to think of new ideas for programmes. I wanted to run the workshop with plenty of time for you to use some of our 450 complimentary and downloadable resources including detailed session plans, PowerPoints (in case you need to offer online programmes). I have also had a look at some of the badge requirements for each section, to see what could potentially be worked towards using our resources and the subjects raised in them (attached). You can view sample resources here
Our fully funded workshop will cover:
· Gaming and Gambling Related harm
· Advertising and sponsorship
· Mental Health and Wellbeing
· Financial implications of gaming and gambling
· How to spot signs of harm
· Where to get help and support
The online workshop will be held on Saturday 29th January 2022 from 10:00am – 1.15pm at the Alex Bussey Centre. On completing the session, you’ll also get a City & Guilds Digital Certification for your own personal CPD, as well as access to the complimentary resources, enabling you to deliver them to your scouts. The training is open to all roles in Scouting who have direct contact with young people, such as Section / Assistant Section Leaders, DESCs and GSL’s, DC’s, DYC’s, DofE and Awards Coordinators, and those in Training roles.
To book on the workshop please click here and feel free to disseminate this information and sign up to other volunteers at your group to be able to attend. Details can also be found on the County Training page. If you would like to attend a workshop but are unable to make the date, please do contact me and I can let you know of other options.
From one Scouter to another, I hope you all manage to take some time off over Christmas (it’s only one hour a week, honest!), especially from all the hard work and chopping and changing over the last 18 months.
